Red vs White

(This will be used to help me decide what color to get, but it doesn't have to be limited to just this car. The best way to convince me is to post pictures of the best of each!)

As some of you may know, I am buying a Mazda 2 soon, and I am torn on the color choice. On one hand there is the red,

Kinja'd!!!

and on the other hand there is white.

Kinja'd!!!

Side note: I live in New England and I plan on putting mud flaps on it. Before anyone says it yes, I realize it is not a rally car, but I am sick of getting snow and slush built up in the wheel wells in the winter. That can also be taken into consideration.

Red. Aside from the fact that white cars can look like rentals, won't the white car look terrible in the winter?

I'm partial to white on that car. You see all of it's sexy lines better with a lighter color.

I plan on washing it regularly, but I can live with bad in the winter if it looks better during not winter.

I agree, but I also really like that red... This is going to be a tough decision.

I'm not commenting on the color but why stop to mud flaps? Get some rally fog lights, Compomotives and the car wrapped in renown livery!

What? Cars that are white, silver or light gray are the one that look best in the winter. You ever see road salt on a black, blue or red car, vs. a white or silver?

WAY more visible on the darker colors.

Sounds to me like you're leaning towards white. Go for it.

For the 2, I've always been partial to the Green because it gives it that funky personality.

But between these two, I would have to say red. The white just makes it look econobox-y.

I think the fog lights help in the white picture as well. Also, if it helps, the white one looks more aggressive and less smiley.

I've always heard the old adage that red cars get stopped by the police more often, but I don't know if there's any truth to it.

I've been driving a bright orange car for a year and half without getting stopped once, and red should be better than that haha.

That's unfortunate. That car added so much personality to the 2. Mostly because it was a cool and funky color, but also because it wasn't available on other Mazda models. This seemed to give it its own identity.

Unfortunately the one I'm getting is the base so no fog lights for either color, but that is something I would like to add in the future. I agree about the aggressiveness, which brings me to another problem, do I want it to be smiley or aggressive... I have to admit I am leaning towards the red though.

Oh I love the car, but it is almost at 170k and it is rusting away... If there was no rust I wouldn't think twice about putting money into it to fix it up, but it sadly just isn't worth it. There will be lots of farewell driving before it is gone, and I have a feeling I will be constantly searching for another one in good shape once it is gone. It really will be a sad day when I trade it in.

Diff went on the previous owner at about 120k in one of the tunnels in Boston on his way home from work during rush hour. They had to shut down all 4 lanes to get the car off the road, needless to say he heard everything in the book that day haha. But he replaced it with the welded version so I haven't worried about it at all.

But yeah the transmission isn't what it used to be, I think there is a small boost leak, it has a misfire and a rough idle, plus all the various things rusting away. Logically, I know it needs to go while it is still worth something, but I really love that car.

Could be the angle of the shot too. I don't discount how much the angle of a photo can make or break a car. My car has after factory, OE fog lights added to it. It's just a nice touch.

I'm not a fan of white cars, generally. Only on fancy cars. On cheap cars it makes them look even cheaper.

I've had a red car before and they are in fact cop magnets. Well, the fact that this was in the early 2000s and I was a white kid with an afro driving a red Integra GSR like an idiot probably contributed to the attention as well.

On the 2, I like the Blue Reflex color.

I am getting a new 2 and the base is the upper edge of my budget. I tried a 2010 hatch 3s yesterday, obviously manual, and I didn't like it. The center armrest blocked you from shifting into 2nd, 4th, or 6th without raising your elbow, and the clutch didn't grab until it was almost all the way out. I could have gotten used to the clutch but that armrest would have drove me insane. Everything else about the car was good though. It had decent steering feel and it was the 2.5 and I liked that engine quite a bit. It was 4 years older than the 2 I am getting plus 40k miles extra so not worth it for me. Most people would not like the 2 if they are concerned with practicality, but nothing is as fun in that segment!

I did consider it, I haven't taken it for a test drive yet but it is about 300 lbs heavier than the 2 and everything that I have read has said the 2 is the most fun to drive which is ultimately what it comes down to for me. I am biased towards mazda haha, but I like the new fords overall minus that giant dashes they use now. If I was looking more for space or mpgs I would probably go with a fiesta or a fit, but I want some zoom-zoom fun haha.
